ASHBURN, Va. – The Washington Commanders made a significant addition to their defense ahead of training camp, signing veteran linebacker Von Miller, while a key offensive player’s contract status remains unresolved.
Miller, a two-time Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl 50 MVP, announced on Instagram Friday that he has signed with Washington. The move adds a decorated pass-rusher to the Commanders’ defensive front.
During an appearance on the “Bleav in Commanders Podcast,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Miller is a valuable locker room presence whose energy influences teammates.
Miller’s career includes eight Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro honors, and the 2011 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He was also named to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team.
While the team bolstered its defense, a question mark hangs over the offense. Star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, a team captain, may hold out of training camp if he does not receive a contract extension. Veterans are scheduled to report to camp on Tuesday.
McLaurin has previously stated he could miss camp if a new deal is not reached. Rapoport, speaking on the same podcast, noted that while McLaurin wants a new contract, the situation does not suggest he is seeking a trade.
The Commanders’ rookie training camp began Friday.
